Spicy Pan Seared Scallops over a Red Cabbage Citrus Slaw

A beautiful, crunchy, citrus, cabbage slaw pairs perfectly with golden, spicy, pan seared scallops!

Spicy Pan Seared Scallops over a Red Cabbage Citrus SlawLets talk television. True Blood specifically. Spoiler alerts ahead!!! What did you think of the season finale? At the ‘six months later’ part, I started wondering if this was perhaps the series finale..but then like all True Blood finales, they left us with another suspenseful scene. My favorite part? Alcide and Sookie. THANK THE FREAKIN’ LORD. The sexual tension between those two the last few season has been unbearable for me. When my husband saw Alcide enter the room and pick her up, he started flippin’ out and grabbing me… I have been verbally, loudly expressing how bad I want those two together. I am ecstatic, to say the least! (He’s the sexiest man on there!) Basically when Bill told her at the end that she “needed a vampire”, I threw my bowl of ice cream at the tv. I wish I was joking. I get way into it. Bill should just die a long, painful, true death…or what he did to the Doctor in the facility..that was pretty sweet…like the modern day version of curb stomping…but face stomping. ew. But it was cool. I’m sick, yes. All in all though, wasn’t that great of a finale.

Spicy Pan Seared Scallops over a Red Cabbage Citrus SlawWhile we’re on the subject of TV.  Homeland. We’re finally starting Season 2, after a two week hiatus of finishing Season 1. I’m really stoked about it. I’m, surprisingly, reallllly loving this show. Once again, I feel like its real life. I freak out. But isn’t that kind of the point of television? Drama specifically?

Spicy Pan Seared Scallops over a Red Cabbage Citrus SlawAlso..moving to Missouri, where there will be nothin’ around, where my husband will be studying his life away every night, will give me LOTS of “quality” time to watch some wonderful “estrogen” shows, as my hubs calls them..so tell me, what’s your most favorite show, that you would highly recommend? Hit me with everything you’ve got, because since my kids have been born and I can’t leave at night anymore, I’ve become a lame, TV junkie. So far, Ive been told Scandal, Orange is the New Black, and The Good Wife. What do you all think of those? yay? nay? What elseeee? (I sound desperate. I am.)

Spicy Pan Seared Scallops over a Red Cabbage Citrus SlawOk, What you’re really here for. Foooooooood. Scallops, for me, they’re a hit or miss. Sometimes they’re great, sometimes, not so much. These suckers are incredible. But I warn you, super spicy. If you’re not into a lot of heat, tone down the cayenne. Promise, they’re just as good. The citrus slaw…ohmygod. Its awesome. I was eating it out of the bowl, randomly throughout the day. So much flavor.

Spicy Pan Seared Scallops over a Red Cabbage Citrus SlawThe spicy scallops though, paired with the cool, refreshing, crunchy slaw, is purrrrfect. It’s like hot and soft meet tart, sweet, and crunchy..it just works. Really well. It takes hardly anytime to make this, and could be considered fancy if you wanted it too. Would be great individual appetizers for fancy dinner parties, you know, if you do that sort of thang. We just got gorgeous fancy china for our wedding, so I can’t wait to host a dinner party..until then. Do it for me. Make these, then tell me about it. ;)

  1. I gave up on True Blood ages ago. The show isn’t as good as the books so it really bothered me but taking that a step further… netflix only offers them in bluray now so I can’t watch on my computer. Kind of complicates my available viewing hours in a given day. As for these scallops… my hubs would go crazy for them!

    • I got to invested to give up! But I agree with you, I loved all the books so much more! They’re absolutely nothing alike! Thats super annoying about Netflix!

  2. I’m waiting for Homeland to arrive on Netflix and am on pins and needles about it!! This dinner looks incredible. I so often forget about cabbage and you just reminded me that it’s time to make it!

  3. So, I almost didn’t read this bc I somehow missed this season of True Blood….but I couldn’t stand the suspense! Soooo happy they finally got together! I really into Revenge and Scandal. Just finished House of Cards on Netflix and it was awesome!

    • Ooh watch it! I actually think that this Season was better than the last couple!
Its about time they got together though! ;)
I LOVE Revenge. I get seriously excited about that one every.single.week. Its one of my favorites! That & Deception! Pretty good too!
Ill have to check out Scandal and House of Cards! Thanks :)

  4. Perfect recipe, although I might tone down the heat a little –

as to TV shows, I am a boring person, only watch Law and Order re-runs, and a couple of comedies: Big Bang Theory and Mike and Molly.

huge fan of Seinfeld, but already watched every single episode at least three times, can say all the lines ;-)

    • haha its definitely pretty spicy, so thats a good idea! :)
You’re not boring. Law & Order:SVU is my all time fav. Ive seen every single episodes a crazy amount..Tuesdays..they re-run them all day long! (But Im sure you know that!)
Big Bang is Hilarious! WE watch them randomly!

  5. Dude, the season finale of True Blood was BS! Did they really kill off you know who? If so, I may be done! And you should totally watch Orange is the New Black. I think the hubs and I watched it in two days. So good! And these scallops, holy deliciousness!

    • Seriousllyyy!!! Im with you..if he’s gone, I think I may have to be gone! That would be crazy.
Two days! haha Ill definitely have to check it out then, thanks!

  6. My fave: Suits. I’m a little behind, but it’s soooo goood. Also, West Wing. Best show of all time. It’s on Netflix, check it out!
Side note–scallops? Girl, you are so fancy! I totally want to come over for dinner.

    • I don’t think Ive heard of Suits, now Im intrigued! Ill check it out!
West Wing…Ive been meaning to watch that forever! ITs right up my alley! Im definitely going to have to get into that. Rob Lowe is muh man! ;)
Also..wish you could totally join me for dinner…what a blast!

  7. Love Scandal and The Good Wife! Also into a lot of the USA Network shows like Suits, Covert Affairs and White Collar. Hmmm, what else… Oh, Breaking Bad! Yes, I watch way too much tv :P

Scallops are my favorite, but I’m too cheap to buy them very often. This totally has me craving them, I might need to splurge soon!

    • We’ve tried to get into Breakin Bad, my husband loves it! I need to give it another shot! Thanks for the other recc’s…I watch far to much tv as well! ;)
I hardly buy them either, but when I do it’s such a treat!

  8. Really, I need to watch more TV!! I have no idea what anybody is talking about when they talk TV. It is kind of a bummer. LOL!

These scallops are amazing though and I love the colors! So pretty!

  9. I mean, seriously gorgeous! I agree that scallops can go either way, but these look cooked to perfection and so yummy. Look at that brown crust!! Now on to the important stuff – True Blood! I’m sooooo glad about Alcide too. I mean that man is just smokin’, and I always wanted them to get together in the books as well. I wish I had like the finale, but the last couple of episodes have just seemed a little boring for me. There was so much great potential with the Warlo (sp?) thing, but he barely got a passing glance. Oh well, hopefully they will remember what makes this series great – hot romance! Ha! And Eric better not be dead or else I’m totally boycotting!

    • Alcide is SO smokin’…but I kinda think hes better looking with a little more hair on his head! (Just Me?) Even still, hes hot.
They were kind of boring compared to what we know True Bloos is capable of!! Its been kind of slow..and I said the EXACT same thing about Warlow!! I felt like they could have done so much with that, and then within minutes he was gone! That blew me away! What a waste!!
Im not a perv, lol but the raunchiness was part of what made this show what it was, and they’ve definitely been lacking in that department! Hopefully next season they’ll get back up on that horse! ;)
